Senior Research Scientist
Dr. (Mrs.) Ruth Naa Ashiokai Prempeh is a Cassava Breeder with expertise in molecular biology. She is a Senior Research Scientist, currently the Head of Division for the Biotechnology, Seed and Postharvest Division and the Head of Section for the Molecular Biology Laboratory at the CSIR-Crops Research Institute. She also serves as a lecturer and the Departmental Quality Assurance Coordinator at the Department of Plant Resources Development of CSIR College of Science and Technology (CCST). Dr. Prempeh holds an MPhil in Biological Sciences from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Ghana and Ph.D. from the University of Ghana, Legon.
Dr. Prempeh was one of the pioneers who started running the Institute’s Molecular Biology Laboratory in 2006 and since then she has worked with a number of Scientists in using molecular tools for genetic diversity studies, marker assisted selection of economic traits, gene expression studies and molecular diagnostics. Together with other Scientists, they have released a lot of improved crop varieties with end-user preferences which have been adopted by farmers in Ghana. She is also into the training of the next generation of scientists in basic molecular biology laboratory skills.
Dr. Prempeh actively collaborates on both national and international levels with institutions such as International Institute of Tropical Agriculture, JR Biotek and private companies to advance agricultural biotechnology and crop improvement in Ghana.
